Player of the Week
SJ
Meyer has been recognizing a Basketball Player of the Week (POW) from Northmont
High School with a plaque and a picture in the Englewood Independent newspaper.
The POW has been chosen by Northmont Coach Jim Brown & his staff.
We have been doing this since November of 1999.
FETCH!™ Financial Education Teaches Children Healthy Habits™
SJ
Meyer & Associates teach local students how to manage money by playing FETCH!™,
a game that teaches spending, saving and budgeting. This fun competitive
lesson uses a new game called FETCH!™, which stands for Financial Education
Teaches Children Healthy Habits™. FETCH!™ teaches children to manage
money early in life so they will grow into adults who make smart financial
decisions. FETCH!™ is set in a dog park where student teams manage
the finances of owning a pet. The game teaches children that sometimes
you must delay buying what you want right now so that you can afford what
you need later. The team that ends the game with the most money in their
savings account, and the most items for their pooch, wins.
Accounting for Kids
SJ
Meyer has participated in Accounting for Kids Day from 2003 to 2009 at local
elementary schools. This program is sponsored by the Ohio Society of Certified
Public Accountants and teaches sixth grade students to play a stock market
game. Even though some of the teams did not make a profit in the stock market,
it was a fun learning experience. After playing the game, students were
amazed at the practical applications of math and had numerous questions
about the benefits of saving their money. By spending just a few hours in
the classroom with students, the CPAs demonstrated how important it is to
develop fundamental math skills while illustrating the value of money.
